Just like he is on the pitch, Newcastle United’s Mike Williamson is straight talking and has no edge.
Keeping it simple is his mantra and this is what he had to say about the rest of the season and how he dealt with sitting on the sidelines;
“The Europa League – that is what we have got to push for.
There might be things going on off the pitch but that doesn’t affect us – we know our jobs and what we get paid for.
“Every player does get frustrated when they’re not playing because that is what we are here to do – that is where your passion belongs.
“It was about keeping my belief and knowing that when I got my chance it would happen – you have got be fit and strong enough to take it.”
To go from fourth choice centre-back to a certainty on the team sheet is testimony to his character.
The fact he is making the very most of what he has got, should be an object lesson to a lot of the wasters we’ve been subjected to, who may have bags more talent but not a fraction of the character Williamson has shown.
