Speaking after the final whistle against Crystal Palace, Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini believes United deserved the win and also thinks that the fact Papiss Cisse got the winner could be a real springboard for the striker, giving him confidence to attack the remaining matches.
Newcastle were dire for most of the match but as Colo says, Newcastle and Cisse in particular kept it going for the full duration and a bit like Villa in the last home game – rubbish performance but another 3 points;
“We tried to win the game for the full ninety minutes and they just came to defend and didn’t create too much.
“When we got near the end, to be honest I thought it was going to finish as a draw – so it was a very good result.
“We’re happy as we won at home and because I thought we deserved the 3 points – Papiss scored and that’s a good thing for him as well.
“We’re so happy for him because strikers live to score…he had a few chances today which their keeper saved but he never gave up, hopefully this gives him a lot of confidence.”
