Kids Do Newcastle United Proud
It was always going to be a tough ask but the Newcastle Under 18s did everybody proud as they went so close to reaching the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.
A strong Chelsea team provided the opposition at St.James’ Park and after twenty two minutes the writing looked on the wall as Solanke put the blues ahead.
However, the United kids showed great character to bounce straight back and goals from Kemen and man of the moment Adam Armstrong amazingly put United 2-1 up at half-time.
The visitors took the lead after 22 minutes through Dominic Solanke but United got back on terms through Olivier Kemen, heading in from six yards as he jumped with ‘keeper Mitchell Beeney, although his hand may have made final contact.
The second half though saw Chelsea come out determined to get back into it and the possibly decisive goal came in 52 minutes as Kiwomya put the visitors level.
Worse was to come as just over ten minutes later it brought the fifth and final goal of the night as Boga fired the winner to put Chelsea through.
The boys in black and white of course did their best to level things but the blues finished the stronger and will now meet Arsenal in the semis.
A great effort and not a little skill, a disappointing result but no means a dispiriting performance.
Newcastle lined up;
Woodman, Sterry, Olley (Heardman 87), Gibson (Drennan 59), McKinnon, Gilliead, Satka, Kemen, Smith (Quinn 71), Armstrong, Aarons
