In the lead up to the Newcastle v Everton match, Alan Pardew was asked about the form of Cheick Tiote this season and to reflect on his contribution overall, with Cheick making it 100 Premier League appearances tonight.

The Newcastle manager said all the usual things about him playing well and how he’d been one of his top three players this season.

However, Alan Pardew also went out of his way to say that he hopes to keep him…

“I think you look at the teams that played the Europa League this year and it goes to prove that Thursday/Sunday has a massive impact.

“No more so than it affected Cheick all those games last year.

“He has been terrific this year and back to his very best.

“I would put him as definitely one of our top three this year.

“Certainly since I gave him the armband he has been outstanding for us and he will be somebody we will be very keen to keep at this football club for the next two or three years.”
