John Carver Says Only Difference Was Everton’s Better Finishing
Speaking after the final whistle of the Newcastle v Everton match, John Carver stated that Newcastle’s finishing wasn’t up to the standard of the visitors’ and ‘that was the difference on the night.’
United’s assistant manager also felt that if Newcastle’s players had taken one of the early half chances presented, then it could have been a different game.
“Bags of credit to their manager and his team as they’ve put together a very very good side.
“We started the match well and had three great chances in the first five minutes but we weren’t clinical enough – that was the difference on the night.
“We went in one down at the break and were disappointed with that because I didn’t think there was a great deal between the two sides.”
From where I was sitting I saw things slightly differently…
Yes Newcastle could have sneaked one early and yes we ended up having other chances later in the game but overall you have to admit that Everton totally dominated in terms of playing better football and having possession in dangerous areas.
I always felt they were in control and while United huffed and puffed in attempting to create anything, Everton looked as though they could move up a gear if it was ever needed – which it wasn’t.
