John Carver nominated his ‘proudest man in the north east’ on Saturday after Adam Armstrong made his Newcastle United debut.

No prizes for guessing that the proudest man he was referring to is the father of Adam Armstrong, the local lad making his first team debut after only turning seventeen in February.

Alan Pardew’s assistant going on to say that obviously the defeat will have spoilt things to an extent but it must be a really special feeling when your son turns out for his local club;

“I know his dad very well and he’ll be proudest man in the north east.

“I think he’ll have one or two beers tonight on that one.

“I know he’ll be disappointed we haven’t won the game but it will be a proud moment for him and his family and they’ll have to enjoy that.

“Adam is level headed and he won’t get carried away by today. He’ll get his head down and continue to work hard, this is just a taste of what could happen for him.”
