Geordie lad and former Newcastle United youngster, Ryan Donaldson, put in a man of the match performance and scored twice at Wembley to help Cambridge United lift the FA Trophy.

It was a comfortable afternoon for Cambridge who secured their first ever FA Trophy with a 4-0 victory over Conference South side, Gosport Borough.

Donaldson’s Cambridge will be hoping for a return to the national stadium as they continue their push for promotion to The Football League via the Conference Premier Play-Off Final.

With Luton almost out of sight at the top of the Conference Premier, the Us find themselves in second place with ten games remaining.

Donaldson, still just 22, tasted first team action in The Football League with his hometown club, Newcastle, before loan spells with Hartlepool United and Tranmere Rovers, then a season with Gateshead before switching to fellow Conference side Cambridge.

Chris Hughton gave him his Newcastle debut in 2009 and he made two appearances in the Championship for the Toon.

Donaldson was also a regular for England Under 19s when at Newcastle but has had to slip down the leagues to make his mark, good luck to him in the future.
