Departing Newcastle Coach States ‘The Fans Are The Club’

Reserve team coach Willie Donachie has spoken out after his enforced departure from Newcastle United – but only to thank the people of Newcastle for their support.

The 62 year was suspended after allegations that he’d struck reserve team player Remie Streete, before eventually resigning.

However, Donachie hasn’t allowed any bitterness of his departure to cloud his judgement when speaking to the Shields Gazette, stating that the fans are the club;

“I try to teach players to be responsible for their actions, don’t try and blame anyone else, so I’m going to go somewhere else and try to be a great coach.

“All I have had is a lot of support and people wishing me well and I want to say thank you to the people of Newcastle who’ve been very supportive, especially all my neighbours and a lot of people at the club.

“Newcastle people are tough but they have got big hearts.

“They are really the club – the fans.

“I have come to love the city, and the area, but most importantly the people.

“Now I have got to go somewhere else but that is football – you cannot always stay in one place but it is a shame that it happened like this.”
