Angry Player’s Mother Attacks Newcastle United For Not Supporting Injured Midfielder

In an interesting twist to one of the latest negative stories to hit the club, a player’s mother attacks Newcastle United and has slagged the club off for not supporting him when out injured.

Not sure how impressed Dan Gosling will be and guessing he will get a bit of stick from his teammates, but Gosling’s mother has (figuratively) rolled her sleeves up and come out fighting in support of her son.

With Gosling having admitted an [intlink id=”40519″ type=”post”]FA charge of betting on matches[/intlink] that he shouldn’t have done, his mother has claimed that blame should be attached to Newcastle United as;

“No one from the club came and supported him when he was laid up,” and that.

“He said he will learn his lesson and that he only did it because there was nothing better for him to do.”

I suppose the average football fan will have only limited sympathy for a highly paid professional footballer, whether he is injured or not, but you would hope and expect that the club would support their key assets when they are injured or otherwise having a bad time. Both from the point of view as looking after the club’s interests and also from normal human decency.

Mrs Gosling also insisted that her son had never bet on matches of clubs, Newcastle and Blackpool, that he played for and she stated that the rules on gambling should be made clearer. This is where it gets a bit dubious because with a growing number of high profile cases of players getting caught out, all he would have to do is get in touch with his union (PFA) rep and they would have told him what he could and can’t do. Players have to take some responsibility after all.

The mother’s fury was also turned onto the betting firm who she claims were only too happy with the gambling until he started to win;

“Dan admits that he was stupid and was betting out of boredom more than anything else.

“He couldn’t even walk with his knee injury and the online betting firm were fine while he was losing.”

Gosling has already donated the £5,00 he did win to the Newcastle United Foundation – the club’s charity, while he has also gift aided a further £1,250 to his old club in Brixham.

Mrs Gosling also commented to the TorquayHeraldexpress;

“He is fine in himself, he said he will take what is coming to him and knows he has been stupid.

“He lost loads and the money he did win he has given away – so he is the loser in the end.

“I feel sorry for Dan but I am right behind him all the way.”

One things I do know, I wouldn’t fancy upsetting Dan’s mam!
