In the lead up to Saturday’s match with Southampton, Alan Pardew was asked about how he rated the job that had been done at Everton this season.
The Newcastle manager had plenty of praise for Tuesday night’s opponents who took his United side apart, though Pardew believes it is realistic for Newcastle to finish above them next season.
“They have a very experienced team with two loan players who outside Loic are the best to have signed.
“I do feel that is something we need to aim for, to finish above Everton, that would be a realistic target for us – but we are not going to do that this year for sure.”
I think if you asked anybody who watched Everton’s 3-0 win to bet on which club will finish higher next season, I doubt you’d have had many picking Newcastle.
While Everton have exciting players like Barclay coming through and have persuaded players such as Baines to sign new contracts, Newcastle have lost Cabaye and any young talent of real quality looks a minimum of a couple of years away at best.
