I Want The Passion Back That I Once Had For Newcastle United
Unlike most contributors on this site I am a southern based NUFC fan, I was born in Cardiff and now live in Reading, but was conceived by Geordies and the majority of my family are still there.
Also, unlike most on here I do not attend every home game nowadays, or travel around the country for away games, although not so long ago I did.
In the past couple of articles I have put on here, I have tried to take positives from our current situation, but the [intlink id=”39439″ type=”post”]article by Alex H[/intlink] has really made me reflect on my time supporting Newcastle. I think I have glossed over how I really feel about the mess at our club.
I have not been to a first team game in over a year now and that is not due to distance.
During the times of Keegan in the 90s all the way up to relegation and our Championship season, I used to travel up for home games regularly and do at least 5 away games each season, For homes leaving at 6am to make it to the Strawberry for pre-game drinks, watch a game which I would love whether a good or poor result all because of the atmosphere and passion. I would then set off for home at 9 the next morning and would not begrudge the tedious 5 hour journey as I was proud to say I was at the game………
That has gone.
In the past 3 years I have had little desire to pass my money and whole weekends over to Mike Ashley and the regime in place. Games where in the past I was unable to be there I would find a pub showing the game, wear my shirt with pride and be the sole Newcastle fan in the place, that has not happened for nearly two years now!
I still watch but now sit in the corner of the pub (without a Newcastle shirt on) and even then feel like I have wasted time, effort and money.
I want to get the passion back that I once had for NUFC. I want to be back at the Strawberry, go in to SJP and get the hairs on the back of my neck standing up due to the noise and buzz around the place………. I want a purpose for my weekends.
I want to be able to go into work on a Monday and say I was there, and was proud to be there, but that will not happen until MA is gone.
He has divided the fans, banned the local papers, treated legends like s#%t, destroyed the atmosphere, sold players with little in return, turned SJP into a Sports Direct advert and somehow turned the proudest of clubs into nothing.
Get out of our club.
