Shearer ‘You Can Only Get Players If One Man’s Prepared To Sign The Cheque Book’
The verdict of Alan Shearer on Kinnear’s departure is that it says at least as much about Mike Ashley as it does about his departing Director of Football.
With the NUFC legend pointing the finger at Ashley’s reluctance to invest in new players at least as much as any shortcomings in JFK’s ‘ability’.
This is what the ex-United number nine had to say on Radio 5;
“I can’t say that I’m surprised but I was surprised in the first place when he was announced director, particularly the way the news was broken when Joe himself announced it when he got some of the players’ names wrong.
“He’s been there seven months and two players have come in, both on loan.
“Maybe it is Newcastle’s way of trying to say Saturday wasn’t good enough and why they didn’t get any new players in.
“However, you can only get players in if one man is prepared to sign the cheque book.
“You just never know what goes on at Newcastle behind closed doors.
“Three nil on Saturday hurt everybody and they were second best all over the park on Saturday, with a lack of fight and lack of desire from the players – now it has come to this.”
