Remy Highlights Importance To Newcastle

Loic Remy once again showed just why Newcastle fans are so desperate for the French striker to sign for the club on a permanent deal with his stoppage-time winner against Aston Villa at St James’ Park.

The on-loan QPR man made an immediate impact on his return from a three-game suspension, easing the growing pressure on Alan Pardew after a dismal run of Premier League form in recent weeks.

Remy’s importance to Newcastle was highlighted by the fact the team lost all three games during the Frenchman’s suspension, failing to score a goal, and leading some Betfair punters to believe a big longshot that the club could be in danger of slipping into the relegation battle.

After hitting the post in the final minutes, Remy ensured the St James’ Park faithful went home happy by smashing home a left foot finish deep into injury time to clinch a 1-0 victory against fellow strugglers Villa.

The striker admitted the win had given the whole squad a lift after a tough few weeks, making it clear he is confident the club can build on the victory and finish the season in strong fashion.

“We are very relieved because I think the last few games have been difficult for us,” Remy admitted after the win.

“Even at home, the fans are expecting a lot from us so now we are very happy and I think the team has found a good spirit which is good for the end of the season.”

While Remy hasn’t revealed his long-term plans, the Frenchman could need some convincing to sign for Newcastle on a permanent deal.

Despite the prospect of relegation having passed for Newcastle this season, Remy’s goal-scoring exploits in the Premier League could make him hot property come the summer.

If the Magpies do miss out on signing the striker on a permanent deal, it will only beg the question as to how this transfer wasn’t agreed and pushed through in January.
