On Monday night, alleged Newcastle target Remy Cabella was interviewed over in France on RMC.
The player was predictably questioned about his future and what he had to say about Newcastle makes interesting reading.
“I’m pleased that there were clubs taking an interest in me but the most important thing was here with Montpellier.
“I didn’t think about leaving as I was concentrating one hundred per cent on my team.
“Our coach says that I should aim to sign for a club that’s more important than Newcastle but Newcastle could be a good springboard.
“if you take Yohan Cabaye for example, he went over there and established himself, then he has come back to PSG.
“You should always look for that club which suits you best, one where the coach really wants you. That’s where I’ll go and we’ll see in a couple of month’s time – in the meantime it’s up to me to prove myself on the pitch.”
A big part of me looks at the French players who have come to Newcastle, particularly internationals like Sissoko, Mapou and Debuchy, and wonders exactly how was a move to Newcastle sold to them.
Arriving at a club that was fighting relegation at the time, it could hardly have been Champions League!
Maybe Mike Ashley could advertise in France – ‘Newcastle United, your springboard to success!’ (You won’t have to stay too long so long as I make a profit, check small print for terms and conditions…)
