Newcastle Star Doubts Villa Tried To Win Game
Cheick Tiote claims that he doesn’t think Villa were really trying to win the game but from where I was sitting, it certainly looked something like that – especially in the first half.
The visitors’ approach play was generally very good for most of the match but when they got near goal it seemed to fall to pieces.
That was maybe the story of the game, two teams with very little confidence – hardly surprising when United went into the match with one win in their last nine matches and Villa only two in the last thirteen. Maybe best summed up for Newcastle by the two absolute sitters that Cisse and Remy missed.
This is what Cheick had to say to the official club website;
“It was a very good win as we hadn’t won for a long time – it is massive for the players, manager, fans, everyone.
“It wasn’t a good game but we’ve got the three points and that’s all that matters.
“Aston Villa said they tried to win it but I don’t think so as we had more chances and pushed them hard, especially in the second half.
“Loic and Papiss both missed good chances but we kept pushing and believing until the end; that’s what we do – we never stop.
I’ve found it hard watching my teammates losing games as you can’t do anything but it mean that when you do come back, you try even harder to put it right.”
