Despite a spirited performance earlier today, Newcastle United have been knocked out of the Premier League Cup.

Facing Manchester City on home turf, the United Under 21s/reserves were under the cosh for most of the first half and yet went in at half-time one goal up.

Michael Richardson was the scorer for Newcastle and both he and United doubled up just after the break.

However, there then followed the crucial part of the game as City hit straight back with goals from Hiwula and Bytygi (no doubt called ‘Scrabble’ by his mates).

The game was decided just after the hour when City’s Lopes scored the winner.

So United out of another cup but credit to the reserves/under 21s for giving the visitors a decent game.

United’s squad today was;

Alnwick, Mitchell, Sterry, Gibson, Satka, Williams, McKinnon, Logan, Kemen, Olley, Richardson, Aarons, Smith, Armstrong, Gilliead, Roberts, Quinn
