One thing you can’t accuse him of is not being open and honest and the Mike Williamson Tottenham comments after Wednesday night’s match followed that path.
The United defender stated after the match that the ‘majority of the lads are hurting’ after the final whistle following the four goal thrashing.
The choice of words is interesting as surely the normal words you’d use would be…’all the lads are hurting’, wouldn’t it?
This is what Williamson said to the the NUFC TV;
“It is difficult to take for everyone, let alone the fans.
“There needs to be an apology and a reaction because it wasn’t good enough, all over the pitch.
“Looking at the positives…this week we need to get back to basics on the training ground and come together as a group.
“The work ethic, determination and the spirit needs to be there and I think it wasn’t tonight – that is the most disappointing thing of all.
“Personally and collectively it wasn’t good enough, I think at times the lads can come in for unfair criticism but tonight it was justified.
“We have to come out against Villa and show the fans we do care.”
That Villa match will not save the season but if the players don’t come out and show something totally different to last night then it isn’t hard to imagine what the fan reaction will be.
