Montpellier Line Up Summer Replacement For Newcastle United Target Remy Cabella

Over in France Le10Sport are reporting that Montpellier are preparing for the departure of Newcastle United target Remy Cabella, with the French club in the process of lining up Jeff Louis as a replacement in the summer.

Louis is a Haiti international and has been the star man for Ligue 2 side Nancy this season.

With 12 international caps already, 21 year old Jeff Louis joined Nancy from Le Mans in 2012.

Remy Cabella stated in January he was staying at Montpellier until the end of the season as he refused to leave them in the middle of a relegation fight.

Thanks in a massive part to Cabella, his club are now only a point off the top half of the table and all but safe from relegation, currently ten points above the drop. Having now extended their unbeaten league run to eight matches ever since the possible Cabella move to Newcastle was first reported.

Cabella made it an impressive total of 10 league goals so far this season as he scored one of the two goals at the weekend which saw off Ajaccio 2-0.

A great goals return from midfield and when you add five assists, he is obviously a player of some potential.

To put his importance to Montpellier into perspective, the next highest goal scorer only has four, while the next highest player with assists has three.

The phrase ‘one man team’ is sometimes overstated but in this case seems overwhelming, keeping Cabella until the end of this season seems almost certain to have been the difference between staying up and relegation.

Obviously Cabella’s form won’t have gone unnoticed elsewhere and we can only hope that unlike the Loic Remy loan deal, there is already an agreement in place with Montpellier for Remy Cabella to add some essential creativity to a woefully lacking Newcastle United, especially since Yohan Cabaye’s departure.
