Media Continue To Use Misleading Debuchy Quotes

10 years ago

The media have continued to use the misleading Debuchy quotes from a radio interview he gave in France, despite our publication of the true translated quotes which gave a totally different (less headline grabbing and money making) than the ones the press are desperate to keep using.

On Thursday we published our article which you can read [intlink id=”39864″ type=”post”]HERE[/intlink], with the correct quotes via our top translator Pierre who spent the first twenty five years of his life in France but who also has an English side to his family, so in the perfect position to give the true translation, even if it isn’t as headline grabbing for us…

The press have almost unanimously chosen to use the following, in most cases not quoting any source for the ‘translation’ and not having a clue as to whether this was what Debuchy had said or not. The much used and repeated (and incorrect) quote;

“PSG? I’m here until the end of the season and as for next year, I do not know.

This though is the proper translation via Pierre who got hold of the radio interview and listened in on our/your behalf;

Q “You are staying over there, you are not moving?

Debuchy  “No (I’m not moving), yeah I am here (Newcastle)”

Q ”What about next year, you might join him (Cabaye at PSG), you never know?”

Debuchy “No it’s not that” (Pierre – The translation is NOT “I do not know”!!!)

This is just a small sample of the headlines of articles which continued to be published on Thursday and Friday despite ourselves pointing out that they were misleading their readers –

Daily Mirror

Headline reads;  ‘Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy won’t rule out transfer to Paris Saint-Germain’

Daily Star

Headline reads; ‘Mathieu Debuchy throws his Newcastle future into doubt amid PSG rumours’

Daily and Sunday Express

Headline reads Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy coy on joining Yohan Cabaye at Paris Saint-Germain’

Give Me Sport Website

Headline reads Newcastle star (Debuchy) unsure over future at club’

A Different League Website

Headline reads Debuchy unsure of Newcastle future’

There are so many things that can be criticised at the club, whether it is the actions/inaction of the owner, manager or players, without resorting to this cheap and lazy way of getting headlines, attention and money!

Alan Pardew was asked about this Debuchy shambles at his pre-Villa press conference and had this to say;

“I don’t think they are accurate.

“I have spoken to him and he is very happy at this football club. He has signed to be here for another four years and he’s not going anywhere in the short-term.

“He is an important player for us and he has improved this season as he has gone along.

“I have no worries about those comments ‘Are you going to here next year?, well you never know in football but as far as I’m concerned he is a player who is going to be here’

“We are looking to strengthen in a lot of positions next year but that won’t be one of them.”

Whether Debuchy is happy and whether he ends up staying…I have my doubts.

However, what I do know 100% is that the player hasn’t said what the press have all claimed he has said and until we hear otherwise, we should all keep giving our full support to one player who has given his all this season.
