Coloccini Return – ‘It’s Nice To Be Back’

All Newcastle fans will be hoping we see a Fabricio Coloccini return to the team today and the defender and captain has said ‘it’s nice to be back’.

Colo has also said the last couple of moths have been ‘difficult to watch’ – I Know The Feeling!

While the defender usually gives a polished performance on a personal level, his importance is probably best summed up by the influence he has on those around him.

In a team of very few obvious leaders, his quality and assurance definitely has a calming influence on those around him.

Alan Pardew has been upbeat about the chances of Coloccini playing today and talked at length about how well he has been training.

In a vital game in terms of restoring credibility and confidence, I’m sure Pardew will be desperate to play his captain, as for Colo himself , he has said he shares our pain having to watch the shambles of the past two months since his injury enforced absence.

This is what he said to the club website this week;

“After 7 weeks out it’s nice to be back finally.

“I’ve been injured since New Year’s Day and it has been very difficult to watch the team’s results and performances, without being able to do anything about it.

“You want to help your team but you can’t do anything it gets very frustrating but I’m just pleased to be back.

“It means I can do my best on the training pitch and in matches to help the team, hopefully get us winning matches again.”

While Yohan Cabaye is definitely a massive miss, arguably Coloccini is an even bigger one in many fans’ eyes.

Counting the West Brom match which Newcastle looked in no danger of losing until Colo went off injured, United have only won one of those last eight competitive matches and have of course conceded ten goals in the last three embarrassing displays.

Newcastle are desperate for leadership throughout the club but on the pitch, the only person who can deliver that is Fabricio Coloccini.
