To get the message out to a national audience, it is invaluable that you have somebody like Alan Shearer who really gets what is happening at Newcastle United.
The Geordie legend has been asked about the latest goings on at St.James’ Park and he hits the nail on the head.
“Joe Kinnear was quoted saying nobody would leave in January but if you are going to let your best player go, you have to have a plan in place for somebody to come in. You can’t let Cabaye go and bring nobody in – that just can’t happen.
“It sends a really bad message out to fans if you are a player in that dressing room, you have to be thinking ‘where are we going?’”
“They are in a decent league position but aren’t going to finish top four, so the cups are the only things they had a chance of winning.
“So I just don’t get the resting players in the cups because these are trophies Newcastle need to go for – resting players in cup competitions…I just don’t get it.’
It is of course senseless why Newcastle didn’t go all out for the FA Cup when they reached January with Premier League safety all but guaranteed already.
The Carroll sale was a bit of a bizarre one with the figure so extreme for somebody who had achieved so little but I have always worried that if/when Newcastle sold a player like Cabaye, whether it would create a domino effect. Buying nobody in the last year will sadly make our other quality players wondering just what is the point of being at Newcastle United.
