The Alan Pardew Sunderland interview after the match was a case of pointing out the obvious for the Newcastle manager.
There was so much wrong with today’s performance but Pardew picked out the two biggest factors as the missing Cabaye and Remy, the club’s best player who has been sold and a striker who isn’t even ours.
“Maybe we was too hyped up for it but everybody was giving the ball away, we struggled to be honest.
“We created chances but never really looked like we had the conviction to score.
“We have taken two big parts (Cabaye and Remy) of our goal scoring out of the team and we are going to more so than reflect on the game, make sure we are strong between now and the end of the year.
“Maybe we need to go back to basics.”
