With 5 Championship Players In Team It’s No Wonder Newcastle Lost

The only surprise to me is that Newcastle fans are surprised we lost, with five Championship players in the starting eleven we were only going to find it tough going against the mackems.

When real quality players such as Remy, Cabaye and Coloccini are ‘replaced’ by Shola, Anita and Williamson/Taylor, how can you expect to have anywhere near the same level of performance.

Throw in the abysmal Sammy Ameobi replacing the very dependable Yoan Gouffran and you have half your outfield players who are a million miles away from the level needed.

Honestly, those five (Sammy, Shola, Williamson, Anita, Taylor) wouldn’t get in any other Premier League team. Sunderland are one of the worst teams in the league and yet some of their very very average/useless players showed up their black and white counterparts.

The mackem centre-backs could have pulled up deckchairs as they had to ‘deal’ with Shola, while Bardsley must have laughed his socks off when he saw he was up against Sammy.

Sunderland fans think Altidore is useless but he still caused our centre-backs problem all match, while Anita’s shortcomings (pardon the pun) are really shown up when he is outclassed by that ginger minger (Colback).

Our real quality players have massively made up for the lack of quality elsewhere in the team, Williamson and Taylor are not up to it without a Coloccini next to them and a powerful protective midfield in front of them. Both of them are a nightmare when anybody has the time and space to run at them as happened yesterday, even when those players are as limited as Sunderland have.

I don’t know how bad an opposition would have to be for Shola to be a goal threat, now 14 months since his last Premier League goal…he might only get a three year contract this time!

Sammy showed against Norwich he’s got a few tricks when playing against a poor opposition who backs off but in reality he is hopeless and even when he plays ok there is no end product.

As for Anita, you can fool some of the people some of the time…

We/he got away with it for a while this season, Remy and Cabaye putting in massive contributions to make up for his less than average impact on anything.

Playing with only one up front so Anita can be part of a three man central midfield is asking for trouble long-term and is a factor in the goals drying up. He doesn’t score goals or create chances and as we saw yesterday, as part of a central midfield pair he gets annihilated, I wouldn’t mind a job in a three man midfield where all I have to do is pass the ball five yards…or ten if I’m being ambitious.

Of course, it isn’t the players’ fault overall as by and large they tried their best and just aren’t good enough, instead it goes all the way up the chain of command via Pardew not having the balls to demand the tools to do the job, with JFK and Ashley laughing to each other about how clever they are at thinking they can sell our best player and not buy anybody in a year and get away with it, on and off the pitch.

When things start going wrong at Newcastle it is never just one wheel that comes off…
