List Of 100 Most Expensive Premier League Transfer Fees Includes 5 Newcastle Buys

A list of the top 100 most expensive Premier League transfers has been put together and five Newcastle players make the list.

This isn’t just any old list of transfer fees as it has been adjusted to take into account what else was happening in football when the transfer fees were paid, things such as the transfer market at the time and the size of the TV broadcasting deals.

The argument is that things such as the price of a loaf of bread go into deciding normal inflation of household spending but that football operates in a different world and these other factors need to be taken into account.

This Transfer Price Index (TPI) has been put together by the respected Tomkins Times website with the help of accountant/statistician Graeme Riley and the whole article can be viewed HERE.

The authors have used the best information available to compile their list although a growing trend is now for clubs to keep as much information out of the public domain as possible.

As you will see from the full one hundred list below, Alan Shearer is in eighth place with his original £15m fee in 1996 now adjusted to £43m (right hand column).

The other Newcastle players  in the list are;

21st Michael Owen £34m (£17m)
74th Tino Asprilla £7.5m (£21m)
86th Gary Speed £5.5m (£20m)
100th Albert Luque £9.6m (£19m)

In terms of which clubs are responsible for most of these 100 biggest adjusted transfer fees, the top clubs are;

28 Chelsea
18 Manchester United
16 Manchester City
12 Liverpool
  7 Arsenal
  6 Spurs
  5 Newcastle
