War Of Words Between Pardew and Gutierrez

The Jonas Gutierrez transfer on loan to Norwich is turning into a war of words between Alan Pardew and his departed player.

Jonas had earlier made clear that he was forced out by Alan Pardew but now the Newcastle boss has chosen to counter that claim.

Alan Pardew was asked today about the circumstances surrounding Gutierrez’ departure and said;

“He’s been a great player for us, but he wasn’t playing. The World Cup isn’t far away. There’s an opportunity for him to play (at Norwich).”

“He has not left, he is on loan. He wasn’t playing first team football and wanted to play.

“I wish him well at Norwich.”

The Newcastle manager  clearly wants to portray Jonas’ leaving as the player’s choice but when you don’t even make it onto the bench behind the likes of Obertan and Sammy Ameobi when seven changes are made for the FA Cup – well you know your time is up.

I find it strange as well that Pardew wanted to emphasise that the deal is only on loan, as though there is any chance of him suddenly wanting Gutierrez back after this loan spell, when he’s already made clear he’s got no intention of playing him.

It all seems very unnecessary and with Jonas never being a scrap of trouble before, it suggests that things have gone on behind the scenes for the Argentinian to want to publicly show how annoyed he is.

When Newcastle struggle to get a loan player away without making waves, it doesn’t fill me with confidence that incoming transfers will be any smoother.
