The pre-Norwich press conference predictably saw comments from Pardew on Cabaye.
The Newcastle manager was no doubt hoping to minimise this conversation and move on to other subjects, but sure enough the press only wanted to know about one topic.
“We know that the club interested in him is a very wealthy club and we are doing our best to protect Newcastle.
“The conversations are going on above me but it’s my job to get the best out of Yohan,
“The team is centred around him and he has a vital role at Newcastle United.
“If you take him out of the team it makes us vulnerable, we have got to protect ourselves moving forward.”
To me, whatever faults Pardew has, he is sending out the message loud and clear when he talks about Cabaye’s potential departure making Newcastle ‘vulnerable’.
Also sad to say that as we’ve always known, the manager who should be the key figure at the club, has absolutely no say on players coming or going.
