15 days have passed since the January transfer window has opened and the only activity in it has been the departure of Jonas Gutierrez with no replacement (more wage savings as usual).
I hope I am not the only one with this on my mind, the season is over for Newcastle United, we are safe (unless we have a complete disaster) and the team sits comfortably in the top half of the table in 8th place, 10 points above Hull in 10th.
On the other hand, the team is also now 9 points behind Liverpool in 4th and I don’t think any sane person should think we can recover that point difference so the target should be 6th at the most, which is where Spurs are with 40 points and 7 above the Toon.
Could the team catch up with them? I don’t think so but you never know.
And this is what is on the management’s minds at the moment, why gamble and buy players when the team is safe and comfortably in the top half? Why spend when it’s not guaranteed to catch the 3 or 4 teams ahead of us?
This next 16 days should show us what MA & his director of football have planned for the team.
As I mentioned in my last article, there are 5 players that need to go and be replaced by quality but so far only one of those five has left and no quality in, so the team is weaker today than it was 2 days ago but the management will again mention the great status of the club financially and that the team is better than the one that finished 5th!!!
Aye stronger, but the other 7 teams around us are much stronger than they were too and that’s why without reinforcements this team will no way finish in the top 6.
Some say they don’t want European football next season! Well I do, that’s where the team should be at least every season.
We are not good enough for the top 4 and the Champions League but we are good enough for Europa League and those dodgy East European stadiums. Bring it on Ashley and prove me wrong.
