Newcastle Derby Double Over Sunderland

The United youths showed the seniors the way when they completed a Newcastle derby double over their near neighbours on Saturday morning.

Newcastle were away from home in the Under 18s Premier League but kept a clean sheet and got the all important winner in the second half at the ‘Academy of Light’.

Earlier in the season United won 3-0 on home turf but today it was a scrappy match in tricky conditions, Tom Heardman struck ten minutes into the second period to double up.

The striker beat the Sunderland keeper when he met Callum Roberts’ cross and his first time shot hit the back of the net.

Earlier Heardman had hit the bar with a header but Sunderland offered little in reply and indeed could have made the game safe before a late chance for the home side just cleared the bar.

Hopefully we will see more of the same when the two sides meet at St.James’ Park on Monday 20th January in the FA Youth Cup.

Newcastle: Pearson, Sterry (Cobain 75), Olley, Cameron, McKinnon, Booth, Drennon, Barlaser, Heardman (Hall 83), Kemen, Roberts (Kerridge 86)
