The tangled web of the January transfer window now sees claims in France that if Newcastle sign Remy Cabella, a Hatem Ben Arfa loan to Montpellier would be top of their coach’s wish list.
While Montpellier couldn’t afford to land Hatem on a permanent deal, Mercato 365 claim that their information says that Rolland Courbis believes that a Ben Arfa loan arrangement could suit all parties.
The Montpellier coach had previously stated that if a Remy Cabella sale happened then he expected to be able to bring in two or three players with some of the cash, Courbis has already recruited Argentinian striker Emanuel Herrera on loan this month.
With Montpellier fighting relegation and their finances in a bad way, the loan market would appear to be their most likely route to try and get through to the end of the season and then re-evaluate their playing and financial situation.
These reports followed earlier ones which claimed that an agreement was in place for Cabaye to join PSG if Newcastle agreed a deal for Remy Cabella.
As a cynic my guess would be that nothing will happen this month but even despite the smoke and mirrors there does appear to be some momentum behind a number of deals happening if one domino falls.
