Is Loic Remy Red Card Appeal The Most Pointless Ever?
News today that Newcastle United have belatedly announced they are appealing against the Loic Remy red card at Norwich on Tuesday night.
While Norwich instantly stated that they were appealing Johnson’s sending off, it is all very bizarre that Newcastle do so two days later.
I could have understood if Newcastle had appealed straight away as in my opinion it was harsh (see the incident below). However, surely it is the most pointless appeal ever made as Alan Pardew could be called as the best witness for the prosecution with what he said after the match.
“But Johnson should be ashamed of his reaction because he never got headbutted, he threw himself away.
“When that happens you know they are both getting sent off.”
The only possible reason could be that Newcastle are trying to make Remy available for the Sunderland match (watch this [intlink id=”39059″ type=”post”]Pardew interview[/intlink] if you seriously believe that he/they think they can win the appeal) because there is no chance of success.
I understood anyway that the authorities had stamped down anyway on the tactic of trying to delay a hearing so players could play in certain matches, the other sure thing will be that it is almost certain Remy will end up with a fourth game added to his ban because of a frivolous appeal. The manager’s post-match comments making that a knocking bet.
