Independent Ratings Of Newcastle Squad This Season

An independent analysis of the Newcastle squad so far this season has thrown up some interesting results.

Maybe the biggest surprise is that man of the moment Yohan Cabaye is not the top rated player so far this season.

The ratings on are considered the most accurate and respected performance indicators in the world and are based on a unique comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during games.

Over 200 raw statistics are used to calculate the player ratings and are weighted according to influence in the game – taking into account the area of the pitch and its outcome for each important event.

Using the whoscored rating system (used by numerous parts of the football industry, including media, bookmakers and clubs themselves), the ratings for each Newcastle player over the first 22 matches are listed – we have listed all players who have played at least five matches – ratings are out of 10.

Really interesting to see Williamson get as high a rating as Remy, while Mathieu Debuchy is very deserving of top spot and we look forward to his return against Norwich.

No surprise to see Cisse struggling, while Shola and Anita are at the wrong end of the list as well.

Maybe interesting to see Krul and Coloccini nearer bottom than top but to be fair Newcastle have shipped plenty of goals and on occasion they haven’t been blameless.

Sissoko and Gouffran’s marks reflect their overall performances, solid if not always spectacular.

7.47 Debuchy
7.46 Cabaye
7.12 Williamson
7.12 Remy
7.11 Santon
7.06 Tiote
7.04 Sissoko
6.91 Gouffran
6.86 Ben Arfa
6.81 Coloccini
6.75 Mapou
6.68 Krul
6.59 Shola
6.59 Anita
6.37 Cisse
