Ex-Newcastle Player Helps To Get Another Newspaper Banned

It is ironic that it is an ex-Newcastle United player who has played a part in getting yet another newspaper banned by a football club.

In this particular instance Nile Ranger wasn’t guilty of anything but the row that has broken out has followed a message on Twitter that mentioned him.

A Swindon Advertiser journalist  posted the following message some three quarters of an hour before Swindon’s team was announced on Saturday to play Peterborough;

“It’s my understanding that Nile Ranger will be involved in today’s game after #stfc changed their minds about terminating the contract.”

Swindon Town reacted by banning the newspaper, despite winning the match anyway, with our ex-waste of space scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 victory.

Swindon’s Chairman when announcing the ban, claimed that Peterborough had changed their team after hearing that Ranger would be playing.  Exactly what special measures you would need to deal with a very average player is another question and they didn’t work anyway.

Things are particularly interesting at Swindon as the newspaper in question is also a sponsor of the club and advertises inside the stadium.
