With our best player on his way out the door, what do you think the Yohan Cabaye Newcastle stats will tell us?

What happens when Yohan plays for Newcastle compared to when he doesn’t….?

cabaye newcastle statsThere have been 98 Premier League matches since Cabaye arrived in the summer of 2011 and he has played 79, missing 19.

The results are…illuminating.

As you will see from the NUFC Stats tweet below, with Cabaye we have a 47% win ratio and without it is 19%, with Yohan we loss 33% of matches and without him we lose 63%.

So basically we win roughly 1 in 2 of our matches when he plays compared to only 1 in 5 when he has missed, while Newcastle lose 1 in 3 matches when the playmaker plays as opposed to twice as many when he doesn’t.

When Yohan plays Newcastle average 1.6 points per match and without him it is 0.8 points.

What this roughly equates to over a season is 61 points when Cabaye plays, 30 points without him.

The last six seasons would have placed a team with 61 and 30 points as follows;

2012/13 7th 18th
2011/12 7th 19th
2010/11 6th 20th
2009/10 8th 19th
2008/09 7th 20th
2007/08 5th 19th

So what these facts tell us is that with Yohan Cabaye we are a top seven team and without him we are relegation material.
