What an end of a week, or 6 days from hell, for all the Newcastle United supporters!
After riding high and winning 7 out of 9 games, beating 3 of the so called title contenders, the team slumps back to earth in style.
OK, the Arsenal defeat was unlucky, the West Brom one was due to Debuchy’s moment of madness and Pardew blaming that incident plus fatigue!
Then the big disaster at home by losing to Cardiff (who NUFC beat easily in November on their own turf).
Today is the 5th of January, the transfer window has been open for 5 days and nothing has happened, yet!
Didn’t we hear our director of football mentioning that there are targets lined up?
Didn’t Pardew say that a striker is needed as Remy is not our player (and most likely won’t be come June 1st) and Shola’s contract is over in the summer and most likely will not be renewed?
So what has happened in the last 5 days and where are the planned signings?
I will have to say what everyone knows already and it is clear to anyone who knows anything about football. The first 11 are great and can on their day beat anyone in the league as we saw happen more than once this season and even during last season.
Those 11 are not robots though and can’t play for 38 game, so Pardew blamed the team’s fatigue. Hmmm – whose fault is that Mr Pardew?
It’s your own fault that you didn’t rotate your team properly and left it all to happen at once with 7 changes from West Brom, using some rusty players that haven’t played all season and expect them to perform at a high level for 90 minutes in a cup game.
I am sure there wasn’t a proper rotation done because like all of us Pardew himself knows that they aren’t good enough (I was going to use the word useless but they aren’t).
It is clear now who are the players that should be sold ASAP and replaced with higher quality players that can give the first 11 competition and give Pardew a selection headache. The players are:
1- Obertan – leaving would be good for both parties, he’s not good enough for the premier league, lacks vision and creativity and the simple final decision making. I don’t know what he does in training but what we have seen from him in the last 3 seasons is not good enough and the lad has got to go. I think moving to France will be good for him.
2- Marveaux – Where on earth is he? Simply got to go.
3- Gosling – Unlucky with injuries and sadly has lost the spark he had at Everton, if he joins a team in the Championship fighting for promotion and hopefully can revive his career, any money in for him is better than letting him go for free.
4- Jonas – Sadly for the spiderman it seems like he has lost his starting spot. Rumours are there is an automatic clause in his contract regarding the number of games and an automatic renewal if he reached a certain number. Lost a bit of pace and he is not the winger he was, his contract expires in 18 months so I think he will be sold either now or in the summer before he is let go for free.
5- Cisse – Either play him or sell him. I think he is trying to make it in the Guinness book of world records as Mr.Offside, every time he is on I feel like the team is playing with 10 men. We all know he can score but he has turned into a fluffy rabbit, as one of our fellow fans in Dubai calls him.
On the other hand, the club needs to act quick with some of the players that need to be kept or future decided:
1- Ben Arfa – Contract expires in the summer of 2015, if his contract is not renewed this month then we are facing another Enrique scenario, it is as simple as that.
2- Remy – Want to keep him or not? Sort it out.
3- Cabaye – Either offer him a new lucrative contract and show him that the club has ambition, or just sell him.
Who should the club sign?
1- A striker, a proper number 9 (like Cisse used to be for a while), there are 100s out there that the club has been linked with and hopefully someone will arrive this month.
2- A winger/ second striker who can freshen things up, the attacking play is predictable and not that effective, again, the club has been linked with lots of players but will it happen?
The season has only 18 games left and the team’s premier league status almost guaranteed. Will the owner want to spend a bit of money to try to challenge for a European spot and improve the team for next season, or is it job done; team is safe, TV money in the pocket and no need to spend anything?
26 days to go.
