Pardew Puts The Grinch Back In His Box

10 years ago

Alan Pardew ensured there was Newcastle United Christmas spirit this week as he allowed them their team Christmas dinner after Thursday’s training.

This was in stark contrast to 12 months ago when Alan Pardew transformed into The Grinch and banned Christmas after a run of dismal performances left United fighting relegation.

The manager explained to the Shields Gazette;

“Things like Christmas dinner work better when people are winning, that is what we are paid to do and we are only happy when we win.

“I know the fans feel the pain when we lose but trust me, it is as bad if not worse for us.

“Christmas lunch was cancelled last year but this year we are in a good mood and the chef has done a great job.”

The United players were also allowed to have their own Christmas special celebration away from the manager’s eyes when they travelled to Dublin after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford.

I think I would have happily bought the whole squad a pint after that one!
