Pardew – ‘Top 10, Top 6, Top 5…Whatever’

At the Alan Pardew press conference in advance of the match at Swansea, the Newcastle manager relished the benefits of being able to put out a settled team.

Pardew also revealed he has had a number of players knocking on his door desperate to get in the team.

What though are the expectations for this season now the players have put themselves in such a great position?

Top 10, top 6, top 5…or whatever could still be reliant on whether we get injuries to key players or not.

This is what the Newcastle manager had to say today;

“Fielding a settled side gives continuity to the team and we’re playing well at the minute. We have had four tough games and managed to edge them all.

“We are reliant on the injury factor to a degree but I’ve had a few knocks on my door this morning off players who want to play; Steven Taylor, Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Vunon Anita, Gutierrez – all not playing at the minute and desperate to.

“What we have got, which we didn’t have last year, is real competition for places and that bodes well.

“Top 10, top 6, Top 5…whatever, for a club like ours we can’t suffer injuries to key players. Last year we did, this year we haven’t so far, so touch wood that continues. Injuries will come though but I think we are in a little bit better position to cope than the rest of my time here.
