Pardew ‘I’m Lucky To Have A Choice Of Great Players’
Alan Pardew was keen to emphasise the choice of Newcastle United tactics he can employ this season.
In advance of the match at Palace, the Newcastle manager said he believes he can now keep the opposition guessing as to what formation he will play.
“We have gone with a couple of strikers at times and done well, we’ve tried to control the game and retain the ball with an extra midfield player, we’ve done that well.
“So that’s causing the opposition a few problems, how we are going to set up – but you have to have great players to be able to do that and I’m lucky to have a choice of great players”
I remember last season when Newcastle were struggling, a decent number of fans were regularly saying why doesn’t Alan Pardew play this or that formation.
At the time I thought, and wrote, that if you don’t have the players then to a large extent it is like shuffling the seats around on the Titanic.
If you have decent players on the pitch then you are 99% of the way there and with no disrespect to Alan Pardew, I think that is largely what happened two seasons ago and is happening now. Get a reasonable number of talented players out there together and they’ll sort themselves out.
