Pardew Admits It Could Be Too Much For Shola
As Newcastle face the middle game of three in a week, Alan Pardew has brought up the Shola Ameobi fitness question.
The striker has played a full part in the recent run of wins but the Newcastle manager has admitted that he wonders whether Shola can manage three games in a week.
“I will see what happens at Swansea as that will give me a reflection of how we have gone from Saturday (West Brom) to Wednesday (Swansea), then we will see how we go from Wednesday to Saturday (Man.U.).
“There will be one or two players that I will be looking at to make sure they are ok, Shola in particular – that I’ll have to gauge.
“The good thing is that at the minute I’m changing a winning team if I do make changes, that is a good scenario for a player to come into.”
It seems clear to me that Pardew doesn’t see Shola starting against both Swansea and Manchester United.
My preference would be to give Hatem Ben Arfa, or even Papiss Cisse a start tonight and then see where we stand on Saturday. However, Shola might look at the case of Mapou and once Coloccini got a start he’s been dropped top the bench.
If Ben Arfa and/or Cisse proved match winners tonight in Shola’s absence, then what would happen?
Newcastle United go for 5 wins in a row on Wednesday night and the match is televised live on BT Sport – until 9th December they have a special offer where you can get up to £100 in Sainsbury’s gift cards if you switch to BT Broadband.
