Newcastle Winger ‘Leave Newcastle? I Only Think About My Club’

While endless headlines surround Newcastle players who are doing well in the team, the question of Ben Arfa staying or not has raised its head again, ironically because he isn’t getting a regular game.

Hatem has spoke to L’equipe back home in France and said that despite the latest speculation linking him with Liverpool and others, he is only thinking about Newcastle.

This is what he had to say to the French media;

“The team’s doing well and so it’s normal that the manager keeps confidence in the team who are playing but when you are a competitor, you really want to be on the pitch.

“I always give everything – even if I am asked to play five, ten or fifteen minutes. Leave Newcastle? That question does not arise today. I don’t think about it, I am at Newcastle and I feel good.

“I only think about my club and play well for my team, I don’t think about the World Cup.

“They asked (previously) if I dreamt about the Ballon D’Or and I said yes, like any other player. This though isn’t something that obsesses me.

“Ronaldo’s statistics show he is carrying Real Madrid on his own but if I had the power, I would give it to Ribery who has won everything with Bayern and contributed so much.”

Ben Arfa could at last get his chance to start after a number of impressive cameos in recent matches. With Tiote suspended today against Stoke, there will be at least one change made.

Interesting also to see what Ben Arfa had to say about his earlier Ballon D’Or comments. He got pilloried at the time because he said he’d always dreamt of winning the award but by simply saying that was a dream it was then twisted as though he was arrogantly thinking he was in with a chance of winning it, above the likes of Ronaldo, Ribery etc – which is clearly not the case.

Would love to see him take Stoke apart today – not one of my favourite teams!
