Newcastle v Villa Fixture Fiasco Sums Up Where Fans Are In Food Chain

The Newcastle v Villa fixture chaos sums up where the fans (paying customers) sit in the food chain.

Originally scheduled for Saturday 22nd February at 3pm, the match was then rescheduled for 5.30pm that same day for the purposes of Sky TV coverage.

However, Newcastle fans were then forced to take an interest in the Champions League draw as if the draw fell a certain way and Manchester United were playing European football on a particular day, Newcastle v Villa would be moved again.

Sure enough the cards fell against us and so Crystal Palace against Man U now takes our 5.30pm slot and Newcastle v Villa is moved to the absolute rubbish slot of 1.30pm on Sunday 23rd February.

As we are regularly told, TV money is the god we are all supposed to worship but it should be a two way process.

Just like Mike Ashley owning Newcastle United, SKY and BT Sport aren’t doing it for altruistic reasons and just because they are desperate to get Man U on the telly shouldn’t mean that fans of other clubs should have to wait on other clubs’ cup draw dictating a second unnecessary move just because we are a plaything of the TV companies.
