Newcastle Midfielder Could Leave In January
It’s reported that Newcastle midfielder Sylvain Marveaux could be on his way to Greece with league leaders Olympiakos claimed to be after him.
If the player moved in January, either permanently or on loan, then he would be eligible for the last 16 of the Champions League if the Greek side follow up the interest they had last summer.
With one goal and only thirteen Premier League starts in two and a half years, it hasn’t been the best of outcomes for a relatively considerable outlay (compared to the return), though as is the modern way there was never a confirmation of exactly what transfer fee was paid. The Chronicle have ran the story of his possible departure but with his lack of playing time and injury problems it would look the best possible option could be a loan with the potential of a fee at the end of it.
While injuries have played a big part, when Marveaux has had his chances then the phrase ‘flattered to deceive’ could have been written for him. He has shown undoubted ability in very small amounts but they have generally been followed by what looks a lack of interest at best.
Recovering from a bad injury when United brought him in, it is a gamble that hasn’t worked out and it would appear the best for everybody would be if Marveaux gets fixed up elsewhere as soon as possible.
