Mike Ashley Adidas Chelsea Ban

8 years ago

While Mike Ashley’s retail empire announced massive increases in turnover and profits earlier today, he/they (Sports Direct etc.) aren’t having it all their own way, with a Mike Ashley Adidas problem brewing over Chelsea.

It has been reported that the German sports brand is refusing to supply S***** D***** with Chelsea’s new kit.

Adidas want to position its leading sports products as premium items and intend to withdraw the Chelsea replica shirts from S***** D***** shops for the 2014/15 season.

It is believed that Adidas are looking to sell Chelsea shirts through the football club and the sports brand’s own stores and website.

The Chief Executive of SD, Dave Forsey, said;

“We cannot understand how it could be possibly be right for S***** D***** to not have the kit.”

It is believed that Ashley’s empire could hit back by refusing to stock other Adidas merchandise with a SD statement saying;

“We will pursue various strategic options in order to protect our leading global market position within the football category.
