Cabaye Staying Thanks To Gentleman’s Agreement
With January just around the corner, there are now reports of Yohan Cabaye staying at Newcastle at least until next summer.
The new extra bit of information supporting this is that the Chronicle claim that their source says following the non-transfer/strike debacle in August, Cabaye and his agent then made a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the club that he definitely wouldn’t leave in the January window that is now fast approaching.
Exactly what a’gentleman’s agreement’ amounts to in modern football is anybody’s guess but with the French playmaker so pivotal to the team, any positive news is good to hear.
In advance of the match with Stoke, Alan Pardew summed up where Cabaye is at this moment in time;
“He’s improving because he’s in an environment where he’s got pole position. He’s got pole position in my team and that is nice for a player like him – you do not always get that at clubs and you can get lost if you are at one of the bigger clubs.
“He has got pole position here and he’s enjoying it, he’s really got his feathers up and can produce any magic he wants for us in that kind of mood.”
