Alan Pardew Champions League ‘I’m Not Saying No’

After the reality check of Swansea, Old Trafford has brought us Alan Pardew Champions League talk.

While he is saying it cautiously, it is still a major leap for the Newcastle manager to be admitting pre-Christmas that the possibility is there – IF things continue as they have been.

Speaking to the Northern Echo this is what Alan Pardew had to say when asked about the Champions League;

“I’m not saying no, it is a situation where if all the top teams are beating each other it gives us opportunity.

“To have Southampton, Everton and ourselves going so well is hugely positive and we’re all playing strong, as are Aston Villa.

“We just have to make sure that we keep playing as well as we are then get to April – hopefully we’ll still be in the mix then.

“We’re not getting carried away or looking too far ahead, we’ve a difficult match coming up (Southampton) and have lost Cabaye (suspended after 5th yellow).

“It is a home game though and our place is going to be rocking.”

No doubt there will be a lot of talk of ‘each game as it comes’ but I think the confidence gained by beating the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United just can’t be underestimated in any way.

Going onto the pitch believing you can beat anyone is half the battle and that is how Newcastle United looked on Saturday at Old Trafford.
