Did I Watch Same Match As Other Newcastle United Fans?
I suppose at least I can agree on one thing with all Newcastle United fans, we beat Norwich yesterday but..how was it achieved?
Some supporters seem to believe that a win must equal a great performance and vice-versa.
The game against Norwich had a lot going on and not all of it good.
Happily United are getting the rub of the green at the minute but despite taking a two goal lead against the Canaries we didn’t put the match out of sight.
Against Chelsea and Spurs we got away with our atrocious defending from corners as the woodwork saved us in both matches, against Norwich though we conceded yet again from a corner kick.
While Newcastle played some canny stuff at times, Norwich also had their moments and with better finishing, especially from Redmond who wasted two great chances, it could have been a different story.
Norwich even edged possession in the match which shouldn’t be the case when you go two up against one of the poorer teams who have the worst defensive record in the division.
Yes let’s celebrate the win an the positives but we can’t be blind to our ongoing weaknesses such as defending from corners and other set-pieces, the lack of goals from other than the obvious and the ease with which at times the opposition finds gaps in our defence.
I just hope the manager and coaching staff are working hard on these regular weaknesses because when luck starts going against us we don’t have much breathing space to fall back on.
