Shola Stars For Nigeria Against Italy, Scoring One And Making Another
Papiss Cisse wonders what else can possibly go wrong this season as his World Cup hopes were made history on Sunday as Cheick Tiote’s Ivory Coast qualified at Senegal’s expense.
Elsewhere, Newcastle’s French contingent see their hopes running up against a first leg two goal deficit when they face Ukraine on Tuesday.
However, one person in Newcastle’s squad must be wondering when the good times are going to stop coming at the minute, after helping Newcastle overcome Spurs and Chelsea, Shola looked on at the weekend as his Nigerian teammates sent the country through to Brazil next summer and it gives Shola every chance of making the plane if he contributes between now and then.
Tonight Nigeria faced Italy in a high profile friendly at Craven Cottage and Shola continues to ride his crest of a wave.
Trailing by a goal from ex-Newcastle loanee Giuseppe Rossi, Nigeria hit back to take a 2-1 lead.
Firstly, Shola crossed in the 37th minute for the superbly named Bright Dike to head home, then he followed that up four minutes later with a near post flick that put Nigeria ahead at the break.
Italy eventually equalised and Shola came off in the 68th minute but the Newcastle striker had done both himself and his club proud.
Hopefully our French contingent can similarly raise their game tomorrow night and join Shola and Cheick in Rio.
