Pardew Rules Out Move For Premier league Striker
Alan Pardew has admitted interest in a striker from a rival Premier League club but claims that any possible move is now very unlikely.
The Newcastle manager has revealed that in his time at St.James’ Park he has twice made moves to bring Shane Long to the club.
“He (Shane Long) is a striker that I have been interested in and through my Reading connections I have been well aware of him, a couple of times I tried to bring him to this club.
“Could he still sign for Newcastle? I don’t think so, I believe he’ll get sorted at West Brom.”
On the 18th November we brought you the following regarding Newcastle being linked with Shane Long;
‘The player in question is West Brom striker Shane Long and I must admit I’ve thought he’s looked decent at times in matches against Newcastle.
However, when you look at his record, Long’s record in the Premier League is only 22 goals in 124 matches in his time at Reading and West Brom. In fact he has only ever scored double figures once in a season and that was in the Championship.’
Since then Long has improved his record with two goals against Villa in their televised draw on Monday night but 24 in 125 Premier League matches still doesn’t inspire.
