Pardew – ‘This Player Was Transformed At Half-Time and We Started To Hurt Them’
While Alan Pardew claimed after the match that it was part of the game plan to allow Chelsea soft possession early in the match, that only works if two things then happen.
The opposition don’t take advantage of that easy/soft possession AND your own players then respond later in the game to hurt the opposition.
The Newcastle manager revealed afterwards who he thought really stepped up in that second half, making the difference and hurting Chelsea;
“We decided to be a little more conservative today in the first half. Chelsea can pull you around and you are going to run out of legs at some point. We had decent energy and I thought we could play a lot better second half with the ball.
Loic (Remy) was transformed at half-time and that made a big difference because we retained the ball and we started to hurt them.”
