Newcastle United Fans Forum Dead In The Water?

I understand that it is being punted about by the club, unofficially of course, since they don’t talk to the local press, that NUST were kicked off the Fans Forum because of a breach of protocol.

The breach being that they published their version of the meeting before the club did so.

Now most of us don’t believe much that comes out of the club of late and I think it’s fair to say that they have developed a bit of a reputation for being ‘economical with the truth’ but as someone who took a passing interest in what was coming out of the Fans Forum, I thought I’d make a couple of points.

On the day of the Fans Forum meeting (a Monday) I had a look at the club’s website to see if there was any information about the forum. The site said it would publish minutes the following day (Tuesday).

So I checked on the following day, again and again, and you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there was nothing. In fact they weren’t published until late on the Wednesday, by which time NUST had published their account of the meeting.

Having looked at both accounts they are virtually similar. There’s nothing in the NUST version that isn’t in the club’s version.

I don’t buy this ‘breach of protocol’ malarky…..if any protocol actually existed.

It’s a smokescreen in my view. The NUST published their version of events a day after the club advertised when they’d publish their own minutes. It appears to be an accurate account so clearly wasn’t published with any ‘sensationalism’ in mind .

If a group of volunteers holding full time jobs can manage to get out an account before a Premier League Club with a full time PR and Marketing Department then there’s something clearly wrong at the club.

If anybody broke protocol it was the club but does anyone actually believe that a ‘problem with protocol’ is the case? Clearly more to this than meets the eye?

My own view is that the club probably didn’t like the questions posed by NUST, which seemed to be ones  they probably didn’t want to answer.

Far better to talk about fans contributing to choosing the design of the new third strip, that’s what fans really want…

Fans Forum? Dead in the water!!
