Newcastle Striker Chase Saga Should End In January
Newcastle United’s long-term pursuit of one of their strike targets could be coming to an eventual conclusion, though not in a positive way if the Italian press are to be believed.
The Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Lazio are looking to do a cut price deal for Bafetimbi Gomis in January with a figure of 2m euros the supposed price on the forward’s head, around £1.7m in proper money.
Newcastle were credited with an offer in the summer of several times that figure with the deal falling apart with claims and counter claims surrounding who paid extra fees to agents and/or Gomis’ previous club.
The striker has returned to first team action with Lyon and scored three goals in nine league starts but it appears that this is only a temporary measure with the French club pulling in as much cash as possible in the January window for a player who only has months left on his contract.
Alan Pardew has claimed that Newcastle are looking more towards English/British players but a player of Gomis’ pedigree would have a big premium on the asking price if he was home grown so I know where my money would be on cash being spent in January, if indeed any new players do come in.
